This guide is intended to assist researchers with data management and provide access to data management tools and services.

Training, Courses & Workshops

If you are interested in learning more about research data management, below are some resources to help you get started:

  • Digital Research Alliance of Canada's RDM Training Resources: Contains PowerPoint presentations, brief guides, primers, and more.
  • The First Nations Principles of OCAP: Provides an introduction to the First Nations data governance and sovereignty principles of OCAP®  (ownership, control, access, possession). This is a fee-based program and is highly recommended.
  • DataOne Education Modules on research data management. Contains PowerPoints that you can incorporate into your teaching. This site also contains links to webinars, screencast tutorials and more.
  • MANTRA is a free online course for students, researchers, academics and librarians who manage digital data as part of a research project. It contains 8 online modules that you can do at your own pace and covers topics ranging from planning, organizing, sharing, storage & security and much more. MANTRA is maintained by the University of Edinburgh.
  • NNLM (National Network of Libraries of Medicine) has an extensive listing of data management resources.
  • PARTHENOS Training Modules: PARTHENOS (Pooling Activities, Resources and Tools for Heritage E-Research Networking, Optimization and Synergies) has developed a series of online training modules such as "Introduction to Research Structures," "Collaboration within Research Structures," and "Manage, Improve and Open Up your Research Data."
  • Research Data Management and Sharing MOOC (Massive open online course). The 5-week rolling MOOC on Coursera was created by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Edinburgh. You will receive a certificate of completion.
  • Research Data Management Toolkit: Jisc has created a toolkit that provides materials relevant to researchers, research support and IT specialists.
