Law for Resource and Environmental Management

Why Use Secondary Sources?

Secondary sources are resources like finding tools like dictionaries and encyclopedias, and commentary like books and articles written by experts in the field. They serve two purposes:

  • to find the law (by offering references to key legislation and cases), and,
  • to explain the law through expert commentary.

Unless you are very familiar with the area of law you are researching, you will usually begin your research with secondary sources.
