ProQuest Agriculture Journals offers the complete text as well as complete images from such journals as Agricultural Research, Forest Products Journal, Journal of Animal Science, Journal of Soil and Water Conservation and Plant Physiology. A preliminary version of a database containing about 53,500 described species and subspecies of fishes. Approximately 4000 of the names included are not available for use because of technical reasons. About 25,000 species are valid ones, and about 25,000 are synonyms. About 200-300 new species are still being described each year.

The database offers full text for most of the dissertations added since 1997 and strong retrospective full-text coverage for older graduate works. Based on the 1995 version of the FishBase CD-ROM produced by ICLARM in collaboration with the FAO and funded by the EU. The WWW version, which was prepared by D. A. Gee of the Species 2,000 Project, contains all records of fin fish species in the FishBase CD-ROM but with only a limited set of information on each fish. The FishBase CD version should be consulted for more detailed information on distributions, ecology, population dynamics, reproduction, genetics, morphology and physiology.
