Maritime Law

BIMCO is an organisation and global shipping community of around 2,000 members in more than 130 countries. Their mission is to be at the forefront of global developments in shipping, providing expert knowledge and practical advice to safeguard and add value to their members’ businesses.

The CDMO of the Faculty of Law of Nantes is one of the eight laboratories of the University of Nantes specialized in the field of research on the marine and coastal environment, then one of the 17 laboratories of the Institut Universitaire Mer et Littoral ( IUML ) , CNRS Federation since 2012.

The Institute of Maritime Law was founded in 1982 to give focus to an existing interest in maritime and international trade law as these subjects had been an important feature of law at Southampton for some ten years. The Institute is now composed of 22 Members and has established an international reputation. Although part of the Southampton Law School, the Institute is privately funded and meets its costs from earned income and from sponsorship.

IAPH is a non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. IAPH aims to be the global trade association of choice for port authorities and operators, representing their interests at regulatory level at the International Maritime Organization, the World Customs Organization, the International Standards Organization and other global alliances such as the Global Maritime Forum and the World Economic Forum.

IMO – the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN SDGs.​

LOF provides a regime for determining the amount of remuneration to be awarded to salvors for their services in saving property at sea and minimizing or preventing damage to the environment.

The UK Chamber of Shipping is the trade association and voice of the UK shipping industry with more than 180 members from across the maritime sector.

The World Ocean Council (WOC) is a global, cross-sectoral ocean industry leadership alliance committed to “Corporate Ocean Responsibility”, developed by and for the private sector, with a unique and multi-sectoral approach to address cross-cutting issues affecting ocean sustainable development, science and stewardship of the seas. The WOC believes that responsible and coordinated Ocean Business Community efforts are essential to a healthy and productive global ocean and its sustainable use, development and stewardship by a responsible Ocean Business Community. To this end, the WOC engages and brings together leaders from the various ocean industries, including shipping, oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, renewable energy (wind, wave, tidal), ports, dredging, cables, as well as the maritime legal, financial and insurance communities, and others to collaborate on responsible use of the seas. They ensure that the Ocean Business Community’s role in ocean sustainable development is understood by all relevant stakeholders (decision makers, policy makers, intergovernmental bodies etc.).
