Holistic Evaluation of Teaching Resource Guide

This guide offers readings and resources to support Dalhousie's Holistic Evaluation of Teaching policy.

Holistic Evaluation of Teaching: Resource Guide

Dalhousie University has introduced a Holistic Evaluation of Teaching (HET) policy to ensure that evaluation of teaching takes into account multiple sources of evidence. The sources include evidence of effectiveness from students, peers, and self. The purpose of this guide is to provide resources/readings related to each of these types of evidence.

A Venn diagram displaying three overlapping circles Circle 1 lists: self-reflection, professional development, classroom observation, teaching artifacts, and communities of practice. Circle 2 lists: teaching dossier, teaching philosophy, SLEQ formative, and SLEQ summative. Circle three lists: solicited feedback, unsolicited feedback, and scholarship of teaching and learning. Where circles one and two overlaps, the word "Self" is written. Where circles one and three overlaps, the word "Peers" is written. Where circles two and three overlap, the word "Students" is written. In the centre, all three circles overlap and the letters HET are written. Around the outside of the Venn diagram, the phrases "Documenting teaching effectiveness," "Assessing teaching effectiveness," and "Improved processes for tenure, promotion, reappointment, and hiring" are written.
