This guide is intended to assist researchers with data management and provide access to data management tools and services.

Training, Courses & Workshops

If you are interested is learning more about research data management, below are some resources to help you get started:

  • DataOne Education Modules on research data management. Contains powerpoints that you can incorporate in to your teaching. This site also contains links to webinars, screencast tutorials and more.
  • MANTRA is a free, online course for students, researchers, academics and librarians who manage digital data as part of a research project. It contains 8 online modules that you can do at your own pace and covers topics ranging from planning, organizing, sharing, storage & security and much more. MANTRA is maintained by the University of Edinburgh.
  • The NNLM (National Network of Libraries of Medicine) has an extensive listing of courses and workshops, including MOOCs, listservs, continuing education and online courses and tutorials related to data management.
  • PARTHENOS Training Modules. PARTHENOS (Pooling Activities, Resources and Tools for Heritage E-Research Networking, Optimization and Synergies) have developed a series of online training modules such as "Introduction to Research Structures", "Collaboration within Research Structures and Manage", "Improve and Open Up your Research Data."
  • Portage Canada's Training Resources. Contains powerpoint presentations, brief guides, primers and more. 
  • Research Data Management and Sharing MOOC (Massive open online course). The 5-week rolling MOOC on Coursera was created by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Edinburgh. You will receive a certificate of completion.
