A number of different statutes and regulations govern family law and child protection cases in Alberta. What follows are links to the most relevant legislation, as well as useful and informative resources that are available online, organized per area of law.

Family law refers to any laws making rules about family relationships, such as when people marry, when families change through divorce or separation, when children in a family are not properly cared for, or when a child is adopted. The Department of Justice publishes a guide to family law in the Northwest Territories called Family Law in the NWT as part of its mission to provide public legal education and information.

The Law Society of the Northwest Territories has a legal information webpage designed for the public with a section dedicated to family law resources.

The Family Law Centre provides child-focused programs and services for families going through separation and divorce. These family justice programs and services promote and emphasize the best interests of children.

The Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador’s website provides updates from the Court, important information for those attending Court or seeking access to Court records, links to applicable laws and procedural information, and information for self-represented persons. This branch of the website specifically addresses the family law division.

It also includes sections with information regarding separation, divorce, and other family law issues. Éducaloi is a neutral and independent organization with a recognized expertise in legal education and clear legal communication. The organization aims to explain the law to Quebecers in everyday language and enhance their legal competencies.

This website, published by Legal Aid BC, offers information, resources, and support for people dealing with family law issues in the province. Legal Aid BC is a non-profit organization committed to helping British Columbians resolve their legal issues. They provide free public legal information, advice, and representation to people with low incomes.

This website is an initiative of the Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick (PLEIS-NB). It offers general information and resources about family law in New Brunswick.

This collaboratively designed website offers information relating to the law, processes, and services that make up family law in Nova Scotia. The website will help users understand their family law issue and provide the tools to navigate the options available to help solve their problem. It is supported by the NS Department of Justice, the Nova Scotia Barrister's Society, and the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia among other organizations.

Funded by the LFO’s Access to Justice Fund, and developed by PLEA, the Family Law Saskatchewan website is specifically designed for Saskatchewan courts and self-represented individuals who are experiencing separation or divorce. Here users will find detailed legal information to help them navigate a separation or divorce and everything that follows.

The Family Law Information Centre (FLIC) is a public, independent body that provides information on family law issues and court procedures in the Yukon.
