Services For: Health Sciences Faculty, Retired Dalhousie Faculty, Dalhousie Medical Residents, Regional Health Practitioners, International Health professionals & Alumni

Dalhousie Alumni

Dalhousie Alumni may obtain a free Novanet user card at any of the Dalhousie University Libraries.   Your student DalCard will no longer be valid after graduation. Users are granted borrowing priviledges for library materials, but do not have off-campus access to electronic materials such as databases and ebooks, though they are welcome to visit the library and conduct an on-site search.

Access Via Proxy is not available

Alumni often ask if they can get access to Dalhousie Library’s collection of ejournals, ebooks and databases now that they have graduated. Unfortunately the answer is almost always ‘No’. Here’s why.

• The Dalhousie Libraries sign license agreements with publishers to provide access to ejournals, ebooks and databases.

•Those contracts always stipulate that only students, staff and faculty who are currently affiliated with Dal may access theses resources remotely.

•The contracts also stipulate that Dalhousie may not resell access to a third party (i.e. alumni).

Dalhousie E-Mail Account

Alumni may continue to use their email account to access webmail, and any other services that they were using prior to graduation (excluding library proxy services). However, please note that account passwords expire every 12 months. Users will be reminded to renew their password via their Dalhousie email.
